A sneak peek at Skypod: how your parcel reaches your front door

In the second part of our video series, you’ll find out more about Skypod – our largest and most modern warehouse. Technology

Without our 30 or so technicians, nothing would work in the warehouse. They’re the heroes behind the scenes who ensure the machines keep running and parcels leave the warehouse on time. We accompany Anto, one of the technicians, on a task in the shuttle warehouse. To do this, he repairs one of the robots worth several thousand francs that fetches products from the shelves.

Skypod

The dimensions are gigantic. 260 robots tirelessly manoeuvre through the narrow aisles and shelves stretching over 12 metres high. It took a whole 40 weeks to fill this huge warehouse with around half a million crates. It’s definitely worth a look.

Logistic Control Center

In the Logistic Control Center (LCC), our employees control and monitor the entire flow of goods – from incoming goods to outgoing goods. If there’s a problem anywhere in the warehouse, an alarm is raised immediately. They have to resolve the problem within minutes so the flow of goods doesn’t come to a standstill. Without the LCC, both humans and machines would be stuck.

Pick tower

Up to 220 employees move through a sophisticated system of narrow aisles and hundreds of shelves in which thousands of items are stored. It may look like chaos, but the system behind it is cleverly thought out to the smallest detail. Products such as batteries, Lego sets and soya milk are collected by hand in trolleys. At one of eight «stations», the employees then place the boxes on conveyor belts that run to the picking and packing area.
