Logo of the Flos brand

Flos

Flos, founded in 1961, manages to follow its own instinct and create products that become icons. With the ideal combination of provocation and functionality, Flos shapes new archetypes in the lighting scene. Light equals emotion and for Flos is even an expression of its own unique identity. Flos is not afraid of constant challenges and daring choices.

The seriousness and thoughtfulness behind the Flos logo reveal that Flos leaves nothing to chance. The slight left turn of the O in the logo is intended to give the whole a dynamic aspect, which in turn fits perfectly with the inventiveness of Flos. The Flos group consists of entrepreneurs and architects who, within a few years, were to create numerous icons of Italian lighting design.

The beginnings of Flos (Latin for "flower") sprang from an ingenious idea: to create objects whose starting point is a light bulb; an inspiration that would significantly influence both the Italian and international markets.

Dino Gavina and the small iron wedge manufactory in Merano had already designed furniture alongside great designers such as Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Afra and Tobia Scarpa. But in the early sixties Gavina was convinced that the time had come to design new lamps.

With the technology used for the Cocoon lamp, developed in the United States and tested at Eisenkeil, the Castiglioni brothers and the Scarpa duo began the creation of lights such as Taraxacum or Fantasma, which would be followed by other attractive and amazing lights.

And so, already on the first day, Flos helped the idea of artificial lighting to a new concept.
